It is perhaps the “Super Bowl Sunday” for cab drivers. That is because New Years Eve brings more business than any other day of the year for many cab companies.
“The phones never stop ringing,” said Rick Prescott of Century Cab in Cedar Rapids, “They could go until six or seven in the morning.”
Prescott said the high volume of calls is evidence that people are being more responsible in the current age. He highly recommends that drivers copy down the phone number of a cab company before going out.
Another Cedar Rapids company is also trying to help people be responsible this year.
“We will tow you, your car, and a guest for just 45 bucks,” said Joel Philipp of Pro Tow.
Philipp said the company runs the service 24-hours a day and not just on New Years Eve. He said tow truck drivers are standing by to help drivers stranded at bars who don't feel safe to drive.
“We got a lot of posters up in every bar and there doesn't a day go by that people are not happy with what we are doing,” he said, “We will take them straight to their homes for a reasonable rate.”
