IOWA CITY – Five new members of the Iowa City Community School District's board of directors took office Tuesday, and the board re-elected Chris Lynch and Brian Kirschling as board president and vice president, respectively.
Lynch and Kirschling, both elected in 2013, are the only two holdovers on the seven-member board after a Sept. 8 election in which four now-former board members did not seek new terms and one member resigned.
Board members LaTasha DeLoach, Phil Hemingway, Chris Liebig, Lori Roetlin and Tom Yates were elected this month.
Lynch was the only board member nominated for president and was elected unanimously by the board. He first became board president in 2014.
Kirschling won another year as vice president in a 4-3 vote over Yates, who was nominated by Hemingway. Kirschling first became board vice president in 2014.
Lynch nominated Kirschling. Hemingway, Liebig and Yates voted for Yates as vice president.
Chris Lynch, of Coralville, was re-elected Iowa City school board president on Tuesday, September 22, 2015.
Brian Kirschling, of Iowa City, was re-elected Iowa City school board vice president on Tuesday, September 22, 2015.
