NEW DATABASE: Cedar Rapids cameras have field day with speeders

Data acquired through the Freedom of Information Act show Cedar Rapids' eight stationary and one mobile traffic cameras caught more than 14,000 drivers from across the United States through the end of July. The stats tell an interesting story.
Speed demons
Speeding citations outnumber red-light citations by more than a 6-to-1 margin. Of citations issued so far, 12.7 percent were for red-light violations and 87.3 percent were for speeding.
For the record
Six citations were issued during the first minute the mobile speed camera was activated, at 9:38 a.m. on March 2.
Highest speed caught: 92 mph, April 11 on a vehicle registered to Kim M. Stulz of Cedar Rapids
Lowest speed caught at an intersection: 41 mph, by several people at Second Avenue and 10th Street SE, Second Avenue and Sixth Street SW, and Second Avenue and Third Street SW.
Lowest speed caught by the mobile speed camera: 32 mph
