IOWA CITY - Terrence Neuzil has formally resigned from the Johnson County Board of Supervisors.
Neuzil delivered Friday his letter of resignation to the Johnson County Auditor's Office, with his resignation effective Dec. 20, according to a county news release.
'Johnson County and its citizens are in my heart and will always be,” Neuzil said in his letter of resignation. 'I am thankful for the opportunity that I have had for 15 years to follow the mission of our County; to enhance the quality of life for our citizens by providing exceptional public service in a collaborative, responsive and fiscally accountable manner.”
Neuzil announced earlier this month that after 15 years on the board, he had accepted a position as county administrator in Kalamazoo, Mich.
With Neuzil's resignation, County Auditor Travis Weipert will be speaking with County Attorney Janet Lyness to determine the next steps in filling Neuzil's vacancy - his seat is up for vote next November.
The likely scenario is that Weipert, County Recorder Kim Painter and County Treasurer Tom Kris will meet and determine whether or not to appoint a new supervisor or host a special election.
Even if an appointment is made, a petition from residents could still force a special election.
The new supervisor will be up for vote again next November.
