GENEVA, Ill. - Brian Navarreto had a two-run single, and Randy Rosario threw six shutout innings in his second start as the Cedar Rapids Kernels knocked off Kane County, 2-0, Saturday night.
Navarreto's hit up the middle gave Cedar Rapids (52-35 overall, 11-6 second half) a lead in the second inning. He, Tanner English and newcomer Sean Miller had two hits apiece.
Miller was sent to the Kernels from Rookie-level Elizabethton to take the place on the roster of third baseman T.J. White, who was promoted Friday to advanced-Class A Fort Myers. Miller was a 10th-round draft pick of the parent Minnesota Twins last month out of South Carolina-Aiken.
Rosario gave up just three hits and two walks in his good start, striking out four. He retired 10 consecutive batters at one point.
Cam Booser and Trevor Hildenberger finished off the five-hitter, with Hildenberger pitching the ninth for his 10th save. The teams play against Sunday afternoon.
