MARION - A motorcycle rider remains at large after leading Marion police and Linn County sheriff's deputies on a lengthy chase Saturday.
According to a news release, Marion officers were notified of a man riding a motorcycle - believed to be stolen - at 5:45 p.m. Saturday northbound on Highway 13 from Hennessey Parkway. Officers attempted to stop the motorcyclist, but he sped up in an attempt to flee. Police and a Linn County deputy pursued the man on Highway 13 until north of Coggon, where deputies continued the pursuit.
As deputies were breaking off the chase, the motorcyclist attempted to turn off Highway 13 onto county road D42 and lost control. He then fled on foot into a nearby cornfield. Deputies, assisted by the officers from the Iowa State Patrol, Manchester Department, Delaware County Sheriff's Office and Marion Police Department, searched for the man but were unable to locate him.
The man is described as white, 30 to 40 years old, with a medium build, short dark hair and a dark brown beard. He was wearing black sunglasses, a black sleeveless T-shirt, gray stonewash jeans and cowboy boots.
Anyone with information on the man or his whereabouts is asked to contact Marion police or the Linn County Sheriff's Office.
