Motorcyclist dies in Iowa City collision

IOWA CITY - A 50-year-old man died Sunday night after the motorcycle he was riding was struck from behind near the 1600 block of Highway 1 West.
According to the Iowa City Police Department, the motorcyclist was stopped in the inside eastbound lane when he was struck by an automobile being driven by an 18-year-old female. The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time and died at the scene.
The vehicle's driver was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The accident is under investigation. Identities of those involved have not been released pending notification of family members.
The Iowa City Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Johnson County Ambulance Service, Iowa City Fire Department and Johnson County Medical Examiner's Office.
