Police arrested a mother and her teenage daughter Monday after they were caught shoplifting together in Cedar Rapids.
An employee at Gordmans, 4601 First Ave. SE, called police around 1:10 p.m. Monday to report the shoplifting. The employee told officers she saw the mother and daughter placing items in their purses and other bags.
Windy Clinton, 32, and her daughter Aleayah Clinton, 15, of Cedar Rapids, attempted to steal $183 worth of clothing, perfume and tennis shoes, according to the police report.
“Mom had one shoe, and the daughter had the other shoe,” said Sgt. Cristy Hamblin, a police spokeswoman.
Both of the Clintons were arrested for fifth-degree theft. They were allowed to sign promises to appear in court and were released, police said.
Hamblin said it appears the Clintons went to the store with the intention of shoplifting. She could not recall any other case in Cedar Rapids where a mother and daughter were accused of shoplifting together.
“She's not going to be up for Mother of the Year,” Hamblin said.
