The City Council voted 7-0 Tuesday night to amend the City Code to allow a downtown piano project to continue on a more permanent basis.
If the ordinance is approved two more times, the city will have a permit process for placing the pianos on the public right of way. The pianos would be allowed from March 1 to Oct. 31 and the locations would require approval from the city.
Two pianos are in place now. Businessmen Marc Moen and Mark Ginsberg, who organized the privately funded project, have proposed five locations within the downtown for additional pianos.
The pianos have been very popular.
“I love the pianos,” council member Regenia Bailey.
