Online help-wanted advertising paints a picture of an improving Iowa economy.
The number of job postings last week on Corridorcareers.com was roughly double a year ago at about 500, according to Sarah Gorsh, of Gazette Communications, which operates the online job site.
The top categories for jobs were general help, followed by accounting, general administration, sales, nursing and social work.
Advertising on IowaJobs.org are up about 63 percent from a year ago at 25,990, according to Kerry Koonce of Iowa Workforce Development, which operates the site.
“”It's way, way up,” Koonce said.
Iowa's unemployment rate for March was 6.8 percent, which was 1.3 percent above the 5.5 percent level of March 2009. However, initial unemployment claims for the week of March 10 were down 41.2 percent from a year ago.
