TODAY'S WEATHER - Mostly sunny and continued unseasonally hot. High 93, low 73.
OPTIONS FOR POOR FARM - The Johnson County Board of Supervisors is faced with three options for the future of the historic Johnson County Poor Farm. The county is in a master planning process to decide how to preserve and use the 160-acre Poor Farm, which opened in 1855 as a way to give mentally ill and poor residents a place to live, often in exchange for farm work. The identity of the man and the officer or officers who shot him were not yet released. Read more: https://www.thegazette.com/news/man-dies-after-being-shot-by-police-in-north-english/
VICTIMS' FUNDING IN JEOPARDY - Three statewide programs that provide assistance to victims of sexual abuse are being eliminated or severely cut because of cuts in state and federal funding, and many more regional organizations are scrambling to limit the impact. KERNELS NEARING PLAYOFF SPOT - This is getting good. Not that the Cedar Rapids Kernels want it that way. They'd prefer to strut and stroll into the Midwest League playoffs. That doesn't appear it's going to happen after a 4-1 loss Sunday afternoon to Burlington at steamy Veterans Memorial Stadium. The race for the two available Western Division postseason spots in the first half essentially has come down to three teams. QUOTABLE - 'The biggest thing about this whole deal is John Parham made it possible. It's hard to talk about, but he's the one that had this vision, this dream, and I know he's looking down on us smiling.” Ray Sterns, a judge at Saturday's seventh annual Vintage Rally at the National Motorcycle Museum in Anamosa
