HISTORY RESTORED AT CITY HALL — If you've attended a Cedar Rapids City Council meeting recently, you've likely noticed the striking murals that surround the Council Chambers. Four distinct murals — one painted on each wall of the room — are fully on view to the public after a four-year restoration process from 2011 to 2015 that was paid for using grant money and private fundraising dollars. SPEED UP ON S-CURVE, BUT CRASHES AREN'T — While it's clear drivers are going faster along the stretch that includes the narrow and sharp interstate curve across the Cedar River, it's less clear what that means for safety, after Interstate 380 speed cameras stopped issuing tickets six months ago. MAY'S DRUG BUILDING HEADED FOR WRECKING BALL — Two neighboring downtown Cedar Rapids buildings are slated for demolition in the 200 block of Second Street SE. The first is a one-story structure at 209-211 Second St. SE built in 1967. For many years, it had two storefronts — the Little King restaurant ('Where a Sandwich is a Complete Meal'); and Baker's Shoe and then Ford's Shoe in the 1970s and 1980s. Of more historic interest is the pending demolition of the two-story structure at 213-215-217 Second St. SE, remembered as the longtime location of the first May's Drug in Cedar Rapids. LEGENDARY BECKMAN COACH LOSES CANCER BATTLE — Legendary Dyersville Beckman baseball coach Tom Jenk Jr. died Sunday, losing his battle with brain cancer. Jenk, who was 64, didn't lose much in a career that included five state championships. Read more: http://bit.ly/2lr7xvL
