Historic Cabin Restoration - The two City Park demonstration cabins were built by the Old Settlers' Association of Johnson County in 1889 and 1913 to teach visitors about what life was like for settlers in Iowa before the 1880s. About 10 years ago, the cabins fell into disrepair and haven't been used for history programming since, said Juli Seydell Johnson, the city's parks and recreation director. Read about the planned restorations here.
Sibling Reunion - The four siblings — Charlotte, and Odell Maynard and Ervin Johnson — have all lived into their 90s, which Kirk, Ervin's son, believes takes a certain form of resiliency to accomplish. 'Their positive attitude has allowed them to live that long,' he said. This month, the four siblings plan to reunite in some way — by Skype for Charlotte and in person for the rest — after nearly three years of being apart and for the first time with all of them in their 90s. Read about the four siblings, and their stories here.
Warner enters the Hall - Kurt Warner's father tried to describe what it was like to see his son about to be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
'Unbelievable,' Gene Warner of Solon said. 'Well, that word isn't big enough. But it is unbelievable.'
It was unbelievable in 1999 when Warner became a starting NFL quarterback with the St. Louis Rams and led that team to a Super Bowl championship that season. It still seemed a little hard to fathom Saturday. Read Mike Hlas' full column here.
Student-athletes voice concerns - Nearly 8 percent of University of Iowa student-athletes surveyed last year said they witnessed or were subject to bullying or hazing by their coach, and nearly one-quarter said they would not approach their coach with concerns about the team.
Summaries of student-athlete surveys, obtained by The Gazette through an open records request, shed light on an athletics department that in May paid $6.5 million to settle legal cases that included court testimony about how Hawkeye coaches treat their players.

Quotable - 'Since Trump has become president, gun sales are way, way down for two reasons,' said Arlan Stegen, owner of Sports Outfitters in southwest Cedar Rapids. 'He's very pro-gun and we don't have to worry about our Second Amendment rights, and people feel safer.'
