The body of a man reported missing two weeks ago in the Iowa City area was found over the weekend in the Iowa River, according to a news release from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
Christopher Jennings, 63, was last seen alive on May 22 near the Benton Street Bridge in Iowa City. He was reported missing May 23 and the sheriff’s office, with help from other agencies, conducted multiple searches on land, water, and from the air with assistance from the Iowa State Patrol.
On Friday, Johnson County deputies found a body in the Iowa River in southern Johnson County, about a mile and a half north of Hills. The body was taken to University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center for an autopsy, but a cause of death has yet to be determined. On Tuesday, the Johnson County Medical Examiner identified the body as Jennings, according to the release.
“No foul play is suspected at this time. The incident remains under investigation by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and the Johnson County Medical Examiner. No further information is available for release,” the release states.
