(AP) - Microsoft has filed documents with the state of Iowa that show the software company is still considering West Des Moines as the site of a new data center.
The Redmond, Wash., company said in a request to Iowa economic development leaders regarding tax credits that it is considering building a $100 million center that would employ about 25 people. Microsoft had originally considered a nearly $600 million center that would employ 50 people.
The recession has forced Microsoft's data center plans to be on hold since early 2009. The company first announced plans for the data center in August 2008.
Microsoft is considering three Midwestern cities for the data center. The company owns about 42 acres in West Des Moines.
