Meetings set for August on Cedar Rapids Medical Mall proposal

The Medical District Steering Team, in conjunction with the developers of the Medical Mall, are seeking input from Medical District property owners and Cedar Rapids residents about the proposed visioning for the district, the district's current and future circulation and wayfinding needs.

The design team of Anderson-Bogert Engineers and Surveyors Inc. of Cedar Rapids and Sasaki Associates, Boston is drafting the Vision Plan that will determine the character and identity of the Medical District. Anderson-Bogert has also been retained to conduct the traffic study for the Medical District, which includes the impacts of the proposed Medical Mall.

The traffic study provides the required data necessary for the City of Cedar Rapids to consider making changes to the circulation around the proposed Medical Mall. It will also provide data needed to develop the visioning and traffic circulation for the entire Medical District.

As part of this planning, the public is welcome to attend either of two open house public information meetings to review the draft visioning and the connectivity plan and submit feedback on the vision and circulation alternatives. The meetings will feature a presentation about both the Vision Plan and the Traffic Study; explain the basis of the plan and the related study; and provide additional information about the District's alternatives and preferred plan.

The two informational meetings will occur at the Crowne Plaza Five Seasons Hotel Ballroom, located at 350 First Avenue NE:

• Wednesday, August 4, 2010, 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., with the presentation at 5:15 p.m.
• Thursday, August 5, 2010, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., with the presentation at 11:30 a.m.

Residents are invited to stop by anytime during these sessions to review displays, handouts and ask questions of representatives of the Vision Planning team, Traffic Study consultants and Medical District representatives.
