Mediacom customers experiencing e-mail problems

Mediacom customers may have been experiencing digital-deja-vu over the past 40 hours when they went to check their e-mail.
The cable-internet provider migrated account data to a new e-mail system at 12:01 a.m. Thursday. As a result, Mediacom e-mail accounts have seen duplication of messages, delays on ingoing and outgoing messages, and some subscribers haven't been able to access their e-mail accounts at all.
Company spokesperson Phyllis Peters said that roughly a quarter of its company's 750,000 customers use the company's e-mail system, and that they can expect things to return to normal within the next 24 to 36 hours.
“We had a high volume of data to move and also, there was a much higher attack from spam, which caused things to get bogged down a bit,” said Peters. “We added extra servers as a part of our contingency plan and we expect customers will be happy with the results.”
Peters says that until now, the Mediacom e-mail system was cryptic. She says that the new system will allow more coordination with mobile devices and will even expand storage space.
