Marion won’t end its garbage fee discount

MARION - Seniors can continue to receive a discount on their city garbage collection fees.
A proposal to end the $5 discount on Marion's $12 monthly fee failed on a tie vote in its first reading last week. The plan would have ended the discount for seniors but retained it for low-income households.
Mayor Allen “Snooks” Bouska and council member Joe Spinks voted against the proposed change. Craig Adamson and Kim Etzel voted for it, with Paul Draper abstaining, and Cody Crawford and Louis Stark were absent.
