The City of Marion received $1 million from the Iowa Transportation Commission Tuesday, as part of the state's $2.6 billion five-year highway program, for a proposed roundabout at 7th Street and 7th Avenue, which is part of the Central Corridor Project.
The roundabout will provide capacity improvements and connect the west end of the Corridor to 7

The funding for the project is provided through Iowa's Clean Air Attainment Program, which helps finance transportation projects and programs that result in attaining or maintaining the national ambient air quality standards of the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments. The program funds are awarded to projects and programs with the highest potential for reducing transportation-related congestion and air pollution which help maintain Iowa's clean air quality.
The Central Corridor includes parts of 6
th
and 7
th
avenues from 1st Street to 35th Street. The first phase of the project included reconstruction of 6th Avenue, from 8th Street to 13th Street, with improvements including a multi-use path, pedestrian accommodations and street-scaping.
