Marion police on the lookout for man who escaped capture, fled in stolen red truck

The Marion Police Department has reported that on Friday they recovered the stolen truck unoccupied at the 900 block of S. 5th St. in Marion.

The Marion Police Department is looking for help finding a man who was involved in a fight caused by his attempt to steal items from a business, all before he fled police in a stolen truck.
According to a Marion Police media release, officers responded at 6:53 a.m. Thursday morning to Hames Mobile Homes at 640 Marion Blvd. for a report of people fighting in the parking lot.
After their arrival, officers learned that the fight had been caused by one man's attempts to steal items from the business, causing an employee to confront him. The man, described as a black male, then 'assaulted the employee and left the area,” according to the release.
Officers received information that this man was spotted in Cedar Rapids at the intersection of Blairsferry Road and Council Street in Cedar Rapids. As Marion Police officers arrived to that area, the man fled across St. Andrews Golf Course, evading capture, according to the release.
Police say they later learned that the man stole a vehicle near the area of Nixon Elementary School in Hiawatha, The stolen vehicle is a red 2000 Ford Ranger with the personalized license plate TERTLE, according to the release.
