Locations have been picked for the city of Cedar Rapids' red-light and speed cameras.
The locations were selected by Cedar Rapids Police Department, in cooperation with the city's traffic engineering department and Iowa Department of Transportation.
The systems will capture motorists who run red lights and who exceed speed limits, and will capture both video and photos of vehicles.
Two cameras, to be installed on Interstate 380, will only capture images of speeding vehicles. Another camera will be installed in a vehicle, which can be set up anywhere in Cedar Rapids police said.
Camera installation is expected to begin soon. There will be a 30-day warning period when the first systems go live, police said. Police said they want to be as transparent as possible in the locations and will continue to notify the public when the systems are live.
Here are the other locations for the traffic enforcement cameras:
- First Avenue and 10th Street East (eastbound and westbound approaches)
- First Avenue and L Street SW (eastbound and westbound)
- Second Avenue and Third Street SW (northbound)
- Second Avenue and Sixth Street SW (northbound and westbound)
- Second Avenue and 10th Street SE (northbound)
- Center Point Road NE and Collins Road ramp (northbound)
- Williams Boulevard and 16th Avenue West (eastbound and westbound)
- Edgewood Road and 42nd Street NE (northbound and southbound)
Cameras mounted atop polls near the intersections of Kimberly Rd. and Brady Street in Davenport, IA., are shown Jan. 17, 2006.
