A Cedar Rapids man who led police on a short chase early Friday morning later told them he was “simply stupid.”
An officer pulled over Jeberic Sykora, 22, around 1 a.m. near the corner of Edgewood Road and F Avenue NW when he noticed his license plates weren't displayed correctly. Sykora initially pulled over, but sped off east down F Avenue NW when the officer stepped out of his car, police said.
Sykora lost control of the vehicle about a half-mile later, near Westwood Drive NW. The vehicle went into a ditch, where it rolled over onto its top, police said. Sykora was not injured in the wreck.
“When asked why he ran, he stated the reason he ran was because he was simply stupid,” according to the police report.
Sykora was arrested for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, no driver's license, no insurance and other traffic charges. He was taken to the Linn County Jail.
