CEDAR RAPIDS - A man wanted in connection with a vehicle arson at the Texas State Capitol earlier this month has been arrested in Linn County.
A release from the Texas Department of Public Safety said the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Michael Patrick Wagner, was arrested by Marion police on Wednesday on an unrelated charge. Officers learned of the Texas warrant and are holding Wagner at the Linn County Jail.
He is accused of setting fire to a vehicle in the south driveway of the Texas State Capitol on August 7. KXAN-TV in Austin reported the primary car damaged belonged to a Sergeant at Arms in the Texas legislature. Wagner faces an arson charge, a felony.
Two Texas Rangers and a Criminal Investigations Division Special Agent are traveling to Iowa, according to the release.
Authorities said extradition proceedings to bring Wagner to Texas are pending.
Investigators identified Wagner's vehicle through a parking ticket issued at the capitol complex, which led them to Linn County.
