A Cedar Rapids man threatened to beat up two police officers and cause them to “end up in a helmet like Officer Davis” while he was being arrested Sunday, according to a police report.
Curtis R. Jones, 30, is charged with two counts of first-degree harassment and interference with official acts. Police arrested him on an outstanding warrant around 11:30 p.m. in the 1400 block of Bever Ave. SE.
Officers approached Jones because he was leaning into a vehicle that was registered to a female with an outstanding arrest warrant, Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said. They soon learned Jones also had an active arrest warrant and placed him in handcuffs.
According to the police report, Jones said “take your hand off me (expletive)” and tried to walk away from officers. Then he voiced the threat referring to Officer Tim Davis, Hamblin said.
Davis suffered severe head injuries when he was assaulted while investigating a robbery on March 29, 2009. The incident was in the news again Thursday when Jose Rockiett, pleaded guilty to willful injury for the assault on Davis.
Jones was taken to the Linn County Jail where he remained Monday afternoon in lieu of $8,000 bond.
