A police officer had to taser a man after he tried to grab a gun from the officer's holster early Friday morning.
Steve Dilts, 52, address unknown, had crashed his car with a semi truck near the Highway 30 exit while traveling northbound on Interstate 380 when officers met him at around 3:50 a.m.
Sgt. Joe Clark said that Dilts matched the description of a man who had entered the Blairs Ferry Road Walmart earlier that morning and stole a set of butcher's knives.
Clark said that Dilts asked the officers to shoot him and that the devil was inside of him. Officers then tried to calm Dilts down, but he went for an officer's sidearm and was immediately tasered and arrested. Dilts was taken to St. Luke's Hospital for evaluation, where he later admitted that he wanted to use the officer's gun to kill himself.
Clark said Dilts will be charged with interference of official acts and trying to disarm a police officer. Any other charges are still pending.
