Floyd Dilworth III is in jail again for drinking and driving, but this time it was a little more painful.
Dilworth, 43, of Cedar Rapids, faces a slew of charges after he led police on a chase early Saturday morning. When he finally stopped in the yard of 960 Fourth St., he didn't follow officers' orders and a Taser was deployed against him, police said.
“The officers were giving him commands, but he wasn't listening,” Marion police Lt. Scott Elam said. “He wasn't doing what he was told, so they Tased him.”
Officers first noticed Dilworth's vehicle around 1:08 a.m. Saturday at the corner of Marion Boulevard and Armar Drive. A check of the license plates showed he had expired registration, police said.
Dilworth sped away from the officer and turned onto Twixt Town Road NE and Northland Avenue NE before driving around stop sticks on Blairs Ferry Road, police said. He continued onto Lindale Drive and Eighth Avenue before reaching the residential area.
At times, Dilworth was driving more than 25 mph faster than the speed limit, police said.
Paramedics checked Dilworth after the Taser was used on him, and he was transported to St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, police said. He was later released and booked at the Linn County Jail.
Dilworth is charged with operating while intoxicated, possession of marijuana, eluding, driving while barred, operation without registration and no insurance.
Court records show Dilworth has been convicted of operating while intoxicated four times in the last 12 years.
