The Marion Police Department arrested a man Wednesday who they believe may have been involved in the stealing of two local vehicles.
According to a media release from the Marion Police Department, officers responded Wednesday afternoon to 1435 George Drive in Marion to conduct a 'welfare check on the resident.” Upon their arrival, officers noted a vehicle reported stolen in the driveway and a suspect Derek J. Triplett, 33, in the residence. Officers believed the vehicle, a 2003 Toyota Highlander, had been recently stolen from the Marion Pizza Hut location, at 1300 7th Ave, according to the release.
Police say that Triplett refused to leave the residence. According to the release, the Marion Police Department acquired a search warrant and then they entered the residence, arresting Triplett on outstanding warrants. Charges include the stealing of the Highlander, reported missing on Jan. 7, 2018, and the stealing of a 2012 Ford Escape from the Casey's General Store location, 680 Lindale Drive, on Dec. 30, 2017, accoring to the release.
Police say they were assisted on the scene by the Marion Fire Department, the Marion Public Works Department, and Area Ambulance, according to the release. The Marion Police Department expressed gratitude in the release for the 'numerous calls and tips” received from the public that helped officers locate Triplett.
