UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS - University Heights police arrested a man for public intoxication early Saturday morning.
Officers said a man was ridding a bicycle while allegedly intoxicated, but during the arrest the man got a bit feisty according to police reports.
Officers said Matthew S. Irwin, 27, of Iowa City was ridding a bicycle and fell down, he then attempted to get back on the bike, but fell again. Police reported that Irwin had watery, red eyes, slurred speech, and poor balance. He also reeked of alcohol.
Police said during the arrest Irwin specifically requested a pre-arrest PBT test, then flatly, refused it. Officers also said Irwin had difficult judging distance and made several nonsensical statements to police, like, “I hope your dick shrivels up.”
Police said while being walked to the patrol car, Irwin became extremely agitated and tried to pull away from officers. He then spit in one of the arresting officer's face, and kicked at police while being held against the squad car.
Police said Irwin's post arrest PBT read at .180. He also has a prior public intoxication convection from August 25, 2009.
