Man rescued from Cedar River in Cedar Rapids Wednesday

Sep. 29, 2022 10:10 am
A man was rescued Wednesday evening from the Cedar River according to a news release from the Cedar Rapids Fire Department.
The fire department was called to the 12th Ave. bridge just after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. A middle-aged man had fallen into the river and wasn’t able to get out on his own.
The man had made his way to a bridge piling and was holding on, waiting for help. Fire Department crews threw ropes to the man and he was pulled to shore and taken to a hospital.
This is the fourth person rescued from the Cedar River so far in 2022. Two others, a man and a young girl, seemingly went missing in the river this summer. The man, Erik Spaw, is a city employee whose empty truck was found in the Cedar River in Cedar Rapids. The girl, Zyah Thomas, was seen going into the river near Palisades-Kepler State Park.
