A Coggon man pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary and riot Tuesday morning for his part in an April home invasion in Iowa City.
Joshua B. Baker, 21, was one of five suspects who allegedly smashed into a sliding glass door at a residence in the 200 block of Haywood Drive at 3:02 a.m. April 12. The robbers made the occupants in the home lie face down on the floor as they stole items.
It was later discovered Baker did not participate in any assault or theft, but was the driver of the getaway vehicle during the robbery.
It was later confirmed one of the victims was a former roommate of one of the co-defendants, Randon Hill, 21, of Marshalltown. Hill had lived with the victim in Cedar Rapids and had been evicted.
The victim told police that he took all of Hill's property to his new Iowa City residence, since Hill never claimed the property.
Hill then convinced four others to go with him and threaten the victims into giving his property back.
DeSean V. Lipscome, 19 of Anchorage, Alaska, Tyler Olesen, 21, of Cedar Rapids, and Samantha Robinson-Ricks, 19, of St. Paul, Minn., were also charged in the case.
Second-degree burglary is a Class C felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Riot is an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by up to 2 years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
