IOWA CITY - A Mississippi man who was arrested early Sunday morning in downtown Iowa City for public intoxication, racked up more charges for allegedly bribing police to not arrest him.
Police said John R. Landry, 28, was warned shortly after midnight near 113 E. College St. after he offered police $300 cash in exchange for letting him go without being charged.
He then increased the offer to $500, police said.
According to police complaints, Landry stated multiple times he has a lawyer and that he makes more money in a day than the police do in a year.
Landry is charged with bribery, public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and interference with official acts.
