MARION – A local man was killed in a motorcycle accident Saturday afternoon and a woman was severely injured, police said.
At approximately 4:15 p.m., three motorcycles were traveling northbound in the curb lane of Hwy 13 when a green SUV coming west from Hennessey Parkway struck one of the motorcycles, Marion Police Chief Harry Daugherty said.
The male driver of the motorcycle was killed in the crash, and his female passenger suffered head and internal injuries, Daugherty said. Names are pending, but the driver was local, Daugherty said. The male was transported to Mercy Medical Center by Area Ambulance at approximately 6 p.m. The female was transported to a local hospital as well.
The 18-year-old male driver of the green SUV was transported to Mercy Hospital for dizziness, Daugherty said.
Both northbound lanes of Hwy 13 were blocked in the area for more than two hours. At 6:30 p.m., police said the lanes could be blocked for another hour.
Lynn Chrzan, wife of the owner of Woods to Wedges driving range at the intersection where the crash occurred, said she and her husband have seen at least four accidents occur at the intersection since they opened in June.
According to Chrzan, cars “whip around” the corner often.
Daugherty said the investigation is ongoing, and investigators are working to determine how the crash occurred.
