One man was injured after a rear-end collision near Coggon Monday afternoon.
According to a media release from the Linn County Sheriff's Office, at approximately 1:58 p.m. deputies and emergency responders responded to a call of a two-vehicle accident on Highway 13 at East Linn Street in Coggon.
As emergency personnel arrived on scene, they discovered a passenger vehicle that had been struck in the rear by a van heading south at that location, according to the release.
After further investigation, authorities determined that Kevin K. Jackson, 43, of Coggon had been headed south on Highway 13 and was slowing down to turn right onto East Linn Street when he was struck from behind. The driver of the vehicle who struck Jackson's vehicle was determined to be Susan M. Hermann, 58, of Manchester, according to the release. Hermann indicated to officers that she 'failed to see” Jackson's vehicle before the collision occurred.
Jackson was transported to Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids for treatment for what the release describes as 'non-life threatening injuries.” Hermann was not injured in the accident.
Both drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident, according to the release. Hermann was issued a citation for 'failure to stop in assured clear distance.”
The incident remains under investigation by the Linn County Sheriff's Office.
The Coggon Fire Department and Center Point Ambulance Service assisted in the emergency response, according to the release.
