UPDATE: A man is in critical condition after he was allegedly beaten with a baseball bat on the Meskwaki Settlement late Wednesday, authorities said.
Meskwaki police responded around 8:50 p.m. to a report of a fight at a residence in the 200 block of Deerfield Crossing, where they found a man with serious injuries.
Police Chief Chris Knouse said the victim was taken by ambulance to Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center, and then airlifted to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, where he was listed in critical condition, Knouse said.
Knouse said a male suspect is in custody, but he has not yet been charged. Neither the name of the victim or the suspect were immediately released.
“It has been referred to the FBI, so they are handling the investigation, in conjunction with us,” Knouse said.
Knouse said there are 15 major crimes that are referred to the FBI if they happen on the Settlement, and assault causing serious bodily injury is one of them.
He declined to release any other information about what led up to to the fight.
An investigation is continuing.
