UPDATE: The Iowa County Sheriff's Office today identified 53-year-old William Ludwig as the man who was was rushed by ambulance to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics late Wednesday night after his home caught fire.
Volunteer firefighters from Millersburg and North English responded to 269 Washington St. for a single-story structure fire at around 8:45 p.m., March 3, and remained on scene throughout the night. The home is considered a total loss, officials said today.
Fire officials could not speak to the severity of Ludwig's injuries, but they did say he lived alone and was the only person injured by the fire.
Millersburg Fire Department Chief Greg Horras said that it was too early to tell where the fire started or what caused the fire.
Neighbors told fire officials that they heard a loud explosion come from the home only moments before the first sign of flames.
A fire at a mobile home in rural Williamsburg killed William M. McCune, 39, late Thursday night, Feb. 25.
The fire is still under investigation.
