Police are reviewing video tapes in an attempt to determine just how a man was run down in a Walmart parking lot Tuesday afternoon.
The man was taken to St. Luke's Hospital with “very serious, life-threatening” injuries after he was struck in front of the store at 2645 Blairs Ferry Rd. NE, police Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said. The man's name wasn't released pending notification of his family, nor was the name of the car's driver immediately released.
Hamblin said investigators will view tapes from the store's surveillance cameras as they reconstruct what happened in front of the store's west entrance a few minutes after 2 p.m. She said the car's driver, an “older female,” was headed east, then turned left into one of the lot's rows where the man was struck.
It wasn't immediately apparent whether the man, described by Hamblin as “younger” but not a juvenile, was walking toward or away from the store when the accident happened.
The driver probably won't be charged. Because the accident happened on private property, the only applicable charges would be drunken or reckless driving or driving on a suspended license. All those possibilities had been eliminated, Hamblin said.
