Man found dead outside Taft Middle School in Cedar Rapids after medical emergency

CEDAR RAPIDS — A man was found dead outside Taft Middle School Wednesday morning after a medical emergency, according to a news release from the Cedar Rapids Police Department.

First responders were called to the middle school, 5200 E Ave NW, at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday for a report of an unresponsive adult male. Medical personnel determined the man was deceased, according to the release.

An email sent to parents by Taft Principal Gary Hatfield said the medical incident did not involve any Taft students or staff.

“While we believe no students witnessed the incident, they may have seen police and emergency vehicles on school premises,” the email states.

No additional information has been released about the identity of the deceased or the cause of death.
