A Jesup man died Thursday when a lawn mower tipped off the side of a trailer and pinned him underneath.
First responders were called to the 1000 block of 160th Street, north of Jesup, at 12:50 p.m. Thursday for a report of a man pinned under a lawn mower, according to a new release from the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office.
The man was identified Friday as Jacob William Knepper, 43, of Jesup.
An investigation determined Knepper was attempting to load a commercial grade lawn mower onto a trailer when the unit tipped off the side of the trailer and rolled upside down, pinning him, the release states.
Firefighters were able to remove Knepper from under the mower, and aid was administered, but he was pronounced dead.
A Facebook post by the Bosco Catholic School System in Gilbertville identified Knepper as a teacher in the schools. According to the school system’s website, he taught high school math and science, and middle school math.
“He loved God, loved his wife, loved his children, his extended family, his school, his students, and his community beyond measure,” the post said of Knepper.
The incident remains under investigation.
The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Jesup Fire Department and Ambulance Service.
