A man was shot and killed by authorities responding Saturday evening to a domestic disturbance in North English, the Iowa County Sheriff's Office said.
The identity of the man and the officer or officers who shot him were not yet released.
According to authorities, Williamsburg police and Iowa County deputies responded about 8:25 p.m. Saturday to a call about a disturbance involving a gun in the 100 block of S. Walnut Street in North English.
'This incident led to an officer involved shooting with a male subject who was pronounced dead at the scene,' the Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
Williamsburg Police Chief Ray Garringer and Iowa County Sheriff Robert Rotter asked that the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation take over the investigation, which is typical in officer-involved shootings.
The Sheriff's Office said more information will be released later this week.
