The man charged in a home invasion and sexual assault of an 81-year-old woman has been extradited back to Iowa.
Darryl C. Tyson, 21, has been charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery, second-degree sexual assault and second-degree theft. He is accused of forcing his way into a home along Oakland Road NE, across from Daniels Park, on May 5 and sexually assaulting the elderly woman before escaping in her car.
The car was recovered five days later in Hiawatha, but Tyson apparently fled to Illinois.
Investigators eventually linked Tyson to the crime by matching DNA at the scene to his known DNA profile in the CODIS system, a national DNA database, according to court documents. After a warrant was issued for his arrest, officers in Peoria, Ill. took Tyson into custody on July 10.
Tyson, whose previous address was unknown to police, was transported to Iowa on Friday and booked into the Linn County Jail. His bond was set at a total of $110,000 for the four charges.
