Man charged following stabbing in Iowa City

IOWA CITY - A 31-year-old man is accused of willful injury causing serious injury and going armed with intent after police say he stabbed a man on the 1200 block of Burns Ave. in Iowa City on June 1.
According to reports, officers initially responded to the area for reports of a fight in progress but did not find any victims. The complaint said a person later called from a different location and told police he had been stabbed following an argument at 1219 Burns Ave., naming Javoni Butler, address unknown, as the suspect.
Reports said the alleged victim told police that Butler went inside when the two were arguing, returned with a knife, and stabbed him in his torso, which also punctured his lung. The alleged victim said he knew Butler.
Willful injury causing serious injury is a class C felony, punishable by up to 10 years in jail and a maximum fine of $10,000. Going armed with intent is a class D felony, punishable by up to five years in jail and a maximum fine of $7,500.
