A television photographer is accused of taking pictures where he wasn't allowed: a store dressing room.
Police made an arrest over the weekend in the case of a man accused of exposing himself and spying on customers in a Goodwill dressing room.
Cedar Rapids Police arrested Devon McMillan on indecent exposure and invasion of privacy charges. It stems from an incident two weeks ago at a Cedar Rapids Goodwill store. Police say McMillan sat naked with the door open in a bathroom. A woman later noticed him using a cell phone to take pictures under the door of her dressing room.
Police say once McMillan was confronted, he ran from the building and a customer followed him. Officers say the customer lost the man behind Collins Plaza Hotel.
Cedar Rapids Police Sgt. Cristy Hamblin says “a very astute” employee quickly copied down the license plates of every vehicle in the parking lot and at the end of the day only one vehicle was left.
Hamblin says McMillan was an employee of Cedar Rapids CBS affiliate KGAN-TV and that he left his work truck in the Goodwill parking lot.
KGAN-TV News Director April Samp could not comment on the case and referred our reporter to their corporate attorney. Repeated calls to the attorney for KGAN's owner, Sinclair Broadcast Group, were not returned.
Here is an excerpt from the criminal complaint filed with the Linn County Clerk of Court.
The charge was Indecent Exposure and Invasion of Privacy. The complaint reads: ” Devon Scott McMillan is accused of the crime of Indecent Exposure….. on or about 4:30 pm on the 17th day of April, A.D., 2010, in Linn County and State of Iowa, expose (himself) to an employee of the Goodwill Store located at 5520 Council Street NE in Cedar Rapids by standing naked in a dressing room with the door open.” And at 5:45 pm on April 17, 2010 “take photos of a nude woman who was inside a dressing room at the Goodwill Store located at 5520 Council Street NE in Cedar Rapids, Iowa against her will by holding his cell phone underneath the dressing room door while she was changing clothes.”
