CEDAR RAPIDS - A Center Point man was arrested over the weekend after police say he stole electronics from his ex-wife's home and later led officers on a high-speed pursuit out of Cedar Rapids toward North Liberty and back.
Michael Getz, 34, was arrested Sunday morning on charges including violation of a no contact order, second-degree burglary, possession of drug paraphernalia, attempt to elude - speed over 25 mph over the limit, three counts of failure to obey a traffic control device and failure to provide proof of financial liability.
Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow said officers were dispatched to a disturbance call at 5:26 a.m. Sunday, where Getz was allegedly at the home of his ex-wife, in violation of a no-contact order.
Buelow said an officer spotted a vehicle in the area of the domestic disturbance, and the driver then fled from the officer.
'Initially, the suspect vehicle was going about 35 mph but then accelerated to over 100 mph on the interstate,” Buelow said.
The vehicle traveled southbound on Interstate 380 past Swisher toward North Liberty. Buelow said the vehicle then turned around in the median and headed back toward Cedar Rapids.
Police were able to stop the suspect vehicle after stop sticks were deployed by the Linn County Sheriff's Office when Getz returned to the home where the pursuit originated.
Buelow said after investigation, officers found electronics in Getz's vehicle that were taken from the woman's home. Buelow said police also found a pipe used to smoke marijuana inside the vehicle.
