CEDAR RAPIDS - Police say a Cedar Rapids man was intoxicated when he drove 94 mph down a city street on Monday evening.
Joshua C. Dixon, 27, of 1138 19th St. SE, was arrested on suspicion of operating while intoxicated, attempting to elude officers and excessive speeding, police said.
An officer was on routine patrol around 8 p.m. in the 3800 block of C Street SW when a car whizzed by going northbound, police said. The car was clocked at 94 mph in a 35 mph zone, police said. The officer, who was in a marked car, turned around and tried to catch up to the speeding car.
The car turned right onto Ely Road SW and followed it until turning left onto Worthington Drive SW, and then left on East Road SW, where it stopped in the 3900 block.
Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said Dixon pulled over because a friend who was a passenger in the car had been pleading with him to stop.
Dixon failed a field sobriety test and a preliminary breath test at the scene, police said. He was taken to the Linn County Jail.
