A 24-year-old man was arrested for forgery on May 8 after police say he forged signatures on checks that he had a friend cash at the University of Iowa Credit Union in Iowa City .
Drew B. Theobald, address unknown, allegedly stole checks from his parents and forged their signatures to receive a total of $365 in cash, Iowa City Police said.
Reports indicate that Theobald had a friend cash the signed checks and then return the money to him. Theobald's parents obtained copies of the checks and indicated that the signatures on them were not theirs.
Theobald was being held at the Johnson County Jail on Tuesday morning. He was later released.
Forgery, a class D felony, is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $7,500 maximum fine.
