Man accused of killing I-80 rest stop worker says he’s unfairly treated in jail, sheriff refutes claim

The Nebraska man accused of killing an I-80 maintenance worker a year ago told a judge in a letter last week that he was being, “mistreated unfairly” because of what he's done.
This isn't the first letter Peter Riggs, 32, of Columbus, Neb., has written to the court. Riggs, charged with first-degree murder, confessed to the crime in other letters and said he “hated” Jeffrey McAdam, 46, of Victor, who he's accused of fatally shooting May 29, 2010 in the mens restroom at the I-80 Victor rest stop.
Riggs said in the letter that inmates and jailers are mistreating him and wants to transferred from Iowa County to another jail. He claimed he is following the rules.
“I can't take back the bad decision I made,” Riggs wrote. “I'm tired of being tormented by the jailers in here.”
Iowa County Sheriff Robert Rotter said Monday Riggs isn't being mistreated. His television privileges were taken away because of his behavior. There is no problem with how the jailers treat the inmates, he said.
Riggs also wrote that he's not going to heaven.
Riggs in the second letter asked the judge to schedule a hearing before his October 17 trial. He didn't explain why he wanted the hearing.
