A man was arrested Thursday afternoon after police say he drove through northeast Cedar Rapids while he was on methamphetamine.
Michael Brecht, 27, of Cedar Rapids, did not stop when an officer tried to pull him over for speeding around 3:20 p.m. in the 800 block of Center Point Road NE, police said. Brecht was in the 700 block of Oakland Road NE when police saw him hold a bag out the window and dump a white powdery substance from it, according to the police report.
Brecht stopped three blocks later. Through their investigation, police determined Brecht had dumped meth and also had ingested some of it. He also had a glass pipe used to smoke marijuana and meth in his possession, police said.
Brecht was taken by ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital. Police watched him until he could be released and go to the Linn County Jail.
He faces charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and other traffic offenses.
