CORALVILLE - Mayor John Lundell is running for a second term at the helm of the Coralville City Council.
Lundell, 59, announced Thursday his plan to run for another two-year term. Before being elected as mayor two years ago, Lundell spent 10 years on the City Council.
Looking back on the years, Lundell said he is proud of the city's ability to rebuild after flooding on the Iowa River devastated much of Johnson County, including Coralville.
'Since the floods of 2008, Coralville has invested substantial federal, state and local funds to protect our citizens against future floods,” Lundell said in a news release. 'Numerous new developments, such as the Old Town project and Panera Bread, are now open in previously flood-prone areas.”
Looking forward, Lundell said he hopes to continue Coralville's growth and progress.
Lundell received his undergraduate and master's degrees from the University of Iowa, where he has been deputy director of the UI Injury Prevention Research Center for 22 years.
He also has served on the Coralville Library board of trustees and is a retired member of the Coralville Volunteer Fire Department.
