UPDATE: There was a brief lockdown around noon today at the Four Oaks facility at 5400 Kirkwood Blvd. SW that contains Prairie Edge School, the alternative high school for College Community Schools.
The incident that led to the lockdown involved a Head Start classroom managed by the Hawkeye Area Community Action Program (HACAP). School officials ordered the lockdown when they were unsure whether or not a parent was authorized to pick their child up from school.
The lockdown lasted “minutes,” according to Four Oaks spokeswoman Liz Mathis, as the situation was quickly resolved when police informed the school that the parent was authorized to pick up the student.
College Community classes were not involved, but because the Head Start classroom is in a section containing Prairie Edge classes, district officials were involved in the process as part of standard lockdown procedure.
Prairie Edge school is on lockdown, school officials have confirmed.
