Local boxer Klinefelter seriously hurt in fight at fairgrounds

An Iowa City boxer remains in the hospital after she was seriously hurt in a Saturday night fight at the Johnson County Fairgrounds.

Emily Klinefelter went up against Christina Ruiz of San Antonio, Tex. on Saturday night.

Saturday's fight was stopped in the third round and responders took Klinefelter to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

A family member says she will be under observation for the next 48 hours and that doctors feel there is a “high probability” of a full recovery.

Klinfelter, 26, is one of the highest-ranked female boxers in the nation, as is her younger sister, Katy Klinefelter.
